If I was to give this entry a title, it would be “Two Steps Forward and Two Steps Back”.

Remember how I said I wasn’t going to buy any more real parts?

Well, ...

... Ummm ...

... I guess ...

... I lied ...

... sort of.

To be honest, these were a pair of parts I have actually had my eye out for.  The first is the flash cone catch.  This part  fits into the notches at the back end of the flash cone to keep vibrations from accidentally unscrewing it off the end of the barrel shroud.  The second part is the anti-aircraft sight mount.  As the name suggests, this is the part where an AA sight can be attached.  This part is more or less permanently attached to the barrel shroud.  The AA sight mount is bent slightly out of round, and will have to be gently coaxed back into shape before it can be used.

So the number of real parts I have currently outnumbers the number of parts I have modelled significantly.  Although having real parts in the model makes it more authentic, having so many real ones and so few modelled ones does not reflect well on my skills as a model builder.  It’s embarrassing.

Worse yet, some parts I modelled a while back have proven to be inaccurate, and will have to be redone.  That means that while the blue on my progress diagram has increased, the red on it has decreased.  Like I said, this is embarrassing.

I am working some large parts of the model right now, so I am hoping this situation will be resolved soon.

On a related note:  I just discovered that the same vendor I bought the catch and AA mount from had sold a barrel shroud a few days before I found out about the two parts I bought.  Had I been able to get hold of that, I would probably be throwing a party and doing back flips right now, instead of banging my head against the wall, wishing I had checked ebay just a few days sooner than I actually did.
